What exact skills and techniques will I learn in the course?
You will learn couture draping from scratch steadily progressing from basic to advanced level. You will learn how to prepare professional dress-form, how to use pins and draping materials rightfully, how to draw style-lines and allocate the drape, how to make darts and paper patterns of your drape and much more. Notably, the proper foundation is no less important than advanced sculpturing draping as it gives a solid footing for creating various shapes, manipulating the fabric and making patterns accordingly.
During the Basic course, you will produce few basic blocks (sloper patterns) in order to understand the key points of draping techniques and by doing so you will be able to start your own “pattern library”. In addition to studying very detailed draping processes, students learn about body measurements, ease, fabric structure, seam allowance etc.
In the Intermediate Draping course you will start learning skills related to actual creation of shapes and patterns on the dress form. You will be introduced with the methods of contouring, forming and using elements of design to achieve various styles.
Through the Advanced draping course you will learn how to make various sculptured designs accommodated in the garment composition. Moreover, Elena videos teach not merely the technical side of draping but designing by creating a garment prototype directly on a dress form.
